God in the Moment #141

This morning I went to visit a friend who has been in the hospital caring for her young daughter. After surgery, her daughter began suffering from complications and they haven't yet found any answers. I feel for my friend because, as a mother myself, it would be difficult to watch your child in pain and angry from being picked and prodded at all the while knowing there was nothing you could do about it.

We threw homemade burgers on the BBQ and let the kids run wild in the backyard. It was a perfect summery evening. No one understands the importance of friendship better than the One who created it. The type of friends that love on your children like their own, would do anything […] [READ MORE]

Today as we were unpacking a few boxes my daughter Avery came across some of her school things from last year. At the end of her junior kindergarten year her teacher handmade a scrapbook for each one of her students. It documents many moments from the year and is a little bit of history from a very important milestone in her life. [READ MORE]

Driving home from running some errands with my mother, we passed another man holding a homemade cardboard sign looking for money, food or work. My mom was sharing with me a story about kid she recently helped by giving them some loose change so they could make bus fare. You never know what the person seeking need actually needs
, but scripture is very clear that we are never to judge the motive of one's heart. [READ MORE]

I dropped my daughter off at school this morning and as I was walking back down the hall to leave I noticed a sign on the wall outside one of the classrooms. I stopped to read it quickly and then proceeded down the hall to leave. I silently smiled to myself at what I read not wise to the moment God was using to speak to me.

My husband often works late into the night because he finds often that's when his creative juices flow the best. He has confided to me once or twice that when it's late at night, everything is quiet, it's like he and God are all alone. I can tell you from personal experience that it's a pretty incredible feeling when you and your creator are creating together.

I took my girls for a date to the park after school pick-up. We went to the coffee shop just down the street to meet up with a friend beforehand and then we would walk together to the park. It was about that time of day when my girls just need to run
. As my girls and I sat waiting for my friend my daughter Avery watched as a young woman in a pink wheelchair came over and sat across from us at the large table. [READ MORE]

I went on an impromptu road trip over the border to pick up a few things. It's about an hour drive but it's lovely drive because other than my music of choice, it's a quiet
drive. I don't generally have a lead foot on the highway so I was moving at a good (and legal) pace. I noticed a utility van coming up behind me very quickly. Apparently I wasn't moving fast enough for him
so he whipped around me in three seconds flat. About ten minutes later I drove past him as he was pulled over by the police and ticketed for speeding. [READ MORE]

Sitting around the kitchen table this afternoon we were having a lovely lunch and tea party to celebrate all the Nana's for Mother's Day. My husbands grandmother was having a lively conversation with my husband about the good old days. They seem to talk about them often – the days of a much simpler life and the progress of technology this day in age.

Mother's day. A most beautiful day to celebrate the blessing of motherhood. I came downstairs to the kitchen this morning to french toast, hot coffee, and colourful streamers everywhere. My girls were excited and giggling at my reaction, my husband proud of his efforts. It was a sweet moment and I truly felt loved and celebrated. [READ MORE]

This evening we sat down at the kitchen table, as a family, for dinner for the first time since moving into our new home. As the baby was throwing salad on the floor and the older one was complaining about mushrooms even though there were no mushrooms, I made a comment to my husband that I think we've had a difficult time adjusting to the house because we haven't made it our home. The other day a very good friend of mine sent me a message looking for a little guidance. She is having to make some big decisions in her life and needed a little outside clarity about knowing when something is from God. And it's a very good question. When you are in the middle of a situation or circumstance, it's hard to know when God is trying to speak to you or show you something and when it's your own imagination hard at work. How do we move aside emotion and look straight at the facts? [READ MORE]

I was driving in the car today and as I was playing with the radio stations a familiar song came on. It's a catchy tune performed by a well known English folk rock band. My ears locked into the chorus “And I will wait, I will wait for you; and I will wait, I will wait for you”

When you're the newbie in a neighbourhood, you know it. When I was leaving to take my daughters somewhere the other morning a school bus had pulled up across from my driveway to pick up the neighbourhood children. I noticed how many parents were out there with them, coffee mug in hand, adjusting backpacks and blowing kisses goodbye. When the bus pulled away many of those parents milled around on the sidewalk chatting with one another, no one in a hurry to get back home. As I finished buckling my wee ones in the car one woman from the crowd came up to introduce herself. She was a very lovely lady and her introduction welcoming. [READ MORE]

For the last week my youngest daughter has had a difficult time adjusting to the new home. My husband and I did anticipate this but we thought it would be our eldest that would have the struggle. Alas, it was not. Avery has been a champ loving every nook and cranny of this house. All she wants to do is help and be a part of the excitement. The little one has been grumpy and out of sorts which has made the transition (not to mention all the work... living in a home while renovating is awful
) stressful for everyone. [READ MORE]

It was getting late and my husband was complaining about an itchy face. He couldn't find his shaving cream and after I look in about a hundred boxes for the toiletries back up stash, I gave up and gave in to his pitiful face. I grabbed my car keys and headed to the nearest store to pick up shaving cream. My mother was over helping us unpack and as I was on my way out the door she handed me her change purse asking me to pick up coffee on my way back home. [READ MORE]

I sit down to write among piles of boxes on the eve of our move. We have a women's Community event happening at the church this evening but sometimes there are things in life that you just can't do no matter how much you want to. God knows what you need even if you don't. And this gal needed a friend so when a really good one showed up unexpectedly wanting to go to the park, and I was already on my way there with my own kids, my heart sighed with happiness.
